Generally, as the owner of the startup business, I would be the chief executive officer (CEO). However, because internet podcasting is a very competitive industry with limited revenue streams, it would be prudent of me to recruit a CEO to run my business for the first year. Three out of four startups fail, and the startups that are successful must have excellent leadership (Feloni, 2014). A startup CEO’s job is to lead the company by (Suster, 2015) defining the market, performing research creating the product, generating funding, and building a team. The following job description is designed to hire an experience startup CEO:

Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Reports To: Board of Directors

Job Purpose:

​

The CEO is responsible for creating a company’s value by providing leadership, vision, and strategy. The CEO must develop long-range goals and strategic plans to establish the company’s culture, mission, and vision to generate revenue, create profitability, and to increase the growth of the company. The CEO will collaborate with personnel to develop policies and procedures of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

​

  • Development, evaluation, and modification of the company’s business strategy, and implementation of that plan to obtain a prominent position in the marketplace

  • Ensure revenue growth is attained reliably and cost-effectively.

  • Collaborate with team members to meet customer’s needs, cultivate new and current consumers, partnerships, associates, and other market alliances.

  • Be the champion of the company, ensuring that the company is thriving in the marketplace.

  • Build relationships and trustworthiness with investors to ensure sustainable resources to fund and grow the business.

  • Act as the principal representative for the company in all communications with the public, media, and financial community.

  • Encourage a high functioning, advanced and committed company.

 

Skills and Knowledge

 

  • Radio Broadcasting experience

  • Podcasting experience

  • Financial aptitude

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to lead and motivate

  • Detail oriented

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Master of Business Administration preferred

  • Three years of entrepreneurial experience

  • Five years of high-level management experience
