LBJ For President

One of the greatest presidents was Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ), another LBJ aka LeBron James is considering running for the president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The last National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar to hold this position was Patrick Ewing in 1998. He was the president during the league’s third lockout in NBA history. LeBron considering this move comes at a pivotal time for the NBA as well as the NBPA because it would be the changing of the guards. Adam Silver will be the new commissioner in February 2014 when David Sterns retires after 30 years of service. Pundits tout Sterns as the best commissioner in sports; however, the most recent collective bargaining agreement (CBA) was very contentious between Commissioner Sterns and the NBA players. In addition, the NBPA will be choosing a new executive director to replace the ousted Billy Hunter who has been the voice and chief negotiator for the NBPA for 17 years. So, one would think if LeBron will make the move to be the president of the NBPA, this present time is right because of the apparent changes. What qualifications does LBJ have to even consider running for this very important position. Academically, he is not qualified because he has only a high school education. However, has one of the most important quality needed for the president of the NBPA, he has the respect of the players. LBJ is the best player in the league; therefore, he can galvanize the members of the NBPA. They will follow him as if he is Simon Says, more important, they will listen as if he is EF Hutton. Unfortunately, Derek Fischer could not get the members to riley around him, the media reported infighting among the players during the last CBA. LeBron is savvy and has cache to unite the players to be a cohesive body to embattle the commissioner during the next bargaining agreement negotiations in 2016-2017 when the players and owners can opt out the current deal. Finally, as president LBJ will have to fit the additional duties in his busy schedule. He is getting married in September. In addition, he is trying to be a three-peat NBA champion like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. Preparing to when a championship takes commitment and LeBron works extremely hard during the offseason to prepare himself for the regular season. Therefore, will he be able to provide the same commitment to the NBPA. LeBron over the years has shown when he wants to achieve a goal he goes for it with velocity and gusto. The NBA community is waiting for another tremendous president name LBJ. *It was reported after this posting that LeBron James has decided not to run for president of the NBPA.
